Episode 1: The Persian Lion
My Uncle Jamshid, or Jim as he is also known, came to America from Iran in 1946 when he was 11 years old. Here he speaks about his first experience playing football with the Washington D.C. Boys Club. He then became the Captain of the football team at Western High School in Washington D.C. and later in 1957 became All American Football Player at the University of Virginia, where some referred to him as “The Persian Lion.” ABC featured him in a special called Cingular All-American on December 9th. Here he also talks about his memories of his mother Helen and father Abol Ghassem. Uncle Jamshid has been an inspirational force in my life. Notice he calls me Iran, my birthname. He is now a Psychiatrist and lives in West Virginia. We recorded this podcast on October 21, 2006 at my home.
